Harold Gilman ( February 11, 1876 - February 12, 1919 ) was an English post-impressionist painter.

With Walter Sickert , he became a founding member of the Fitzroy Street Group (London) in 1907 . In 1911 he founded the Camden Town Group (London) with Sickert . Both groups did not embody the main line of English painting at the time, but dealt with subjects such as portraits or landscapes. Gilman was influenced by van Gogh , Cézanne , Gauguin and later by Matisse . His realistic painting, which is mainly limited to the basic and complementary colors, is at times characterized by short brushstrokes.

Gilman died in 1919 of the Spanish flu, which was rampant in Europe .
