HarperCollins is an American publisher with headquarters in New York . HarperCollins is a subsidiary of Rupert Murdochs News Corporation , formed by the merger of the American publishing house Harper & Row (owned by News Corporation since 1987) and the British publishing house William Collins & Sons in 1990.

Worldwide Chief Executive Officer of HarperCollins since 2008 is Brian Murray, who replaced Jane Friedman (since 1997).

In October 2011 it was announced that HarperCollins, the publishing house Thomas Nelson for an undisclosed price of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. takes over. HarperCollins becomes the third owner of the company in the past eighteen months. HarperCollins has combined the Christian religious publishers Zondervan and Thomas Nelson and the Bible software company Olive Tree Bible Software, Inc. in the HarperCollins Christian Publishing Division .

At the end of 2014 it became known that Collins Bartholomew Ltd., which belongs to HarperCollins UK, published a school atlas for the Arab-Muslim market in which Israel was missing from the map and its territory was added to Jordan and Syria. Collins Bartholomew justified this with the fact that it was unacceptable for customers in the Persian Gulf if Israel were included on maps of the Middle East. After the announcement and protests, the publisher apologized on Facebook and claimed that the remaining stocks would be taken back and destroyed.
