Harriet Lerner

Harriet Goldhor Lerner (born November 30, 1944 in Brooklyn , New York ) is an American psychologist , psychotherapist and feminist .

Life

Harriet Goldhor Lerner grew up as the second daughter of Archie and Rose Goldhor, both Russian-Jewish immigrants , in Brooklyn. She received her PhD in clinical psychology from the City University of New York in 1972 and then completed a two-year postgraduate training in family therapy at the Menninger Foundation in Topeka . She has published scientific articles and twelve psychological books for a general audience, in which she combines family therapy with feminist approaches. Her 1985 book The Dance of Anger was a bestseller. She is married and has two sons, the younger of whom is the writer Ben Lerner .
