Harriette Simpson Arnow
Harriette Simpson Arnow , originally just Harriette Simpson , (born July 7, 1908 in Wayne County , Kentucky , † March 22, 1986 ) was an American author .
Life
Harriette Simpson published her first novel Mountain Path in 1936 , based on her experience as a teacher.
In 1939 she married Harold B. Arnow, a son of Jewish immigrants . From then on, Harriette's second surname was Arnow . They lived in Pulaski County, Kentucky, and Henriette returned to teaching until they both moved into public housing in 1944 . Her book Hunter's Horn became a bestseller and she received several awards such as the Pulitzer Prize .
In 1950 they moved to Ann Arbor , Michigan . In 1954 she published her most famous work The Dollmaker ( The Dollmaker ). Her last works were The Weedkiller's Daughter (1970), The Kentucky Trace (1974) and Old Burnside (1977).
