Harry Binswanger

Harry Binswanger (* 1944 in Richmond , Virginia ) is an American philosopher and writer . He is known for his contributions to objectivism according to Ayn ​​Rand .

Life

Binswanger earned a B. Sc. in Humanities and Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology , where he founded the student group Radicals for Capitalism . This was followed by a Ph. D. in philosophy from Columbia University . His dissertation dealt with a new theory about the purposefulness of living organisms. From 1972 to 1979 he taught philosophy at Hunter College in New York and later also worked at various other colleges in New York and at the University of Austin, Texas.

Binswanger was a close friend of Ayn Rand and studied her work extensively. He lectured at over 40 universities on objectivism, for example on the subject of free will and consciousness, and is the editor and publisher of numerous books and writings by and about Ayn Rand, including the Ayn Rand Lexicon . From 1980 to 1987 he was editor and publisher of The Objectivist Forum magazine , the 48 issues of which are now also available as a bound edition. Binswanger currently serves on the board of directors of the Ayn Rand Institute founded by Leonard Peikoff .

Binswanger is an advocate of an open immigration policy. He argues that individual rights of the individual should not be restricted by his nationality. For similar reasons, he considers capitalism to be the only system that guarantees real individual freedom. He is the author of numerous articles for Capitalist Magazine .

Binswanger is considered a supporter of atheism .
