Leonard Peikoff
Leonard S. Peikoff (born October 15, 1933 in Winnipeg , Manitoba ) is an American philosopher . Peikoff is a student of Ayn Rand and author of the book Objectivism: The Philosophy of Ayn Rand (OPAR) . He is the founder of the Ayn Rand Institute . Ayn Rand met Peikoff at the age of 17.
Life
Peikoff studied at the University of Manitoba and New York University , where he received his B.A. (1954), M.A. (1957) and Ph. D. under Sidney Hook in Philosophy (1964). Ayn Rand had chosen Peikoff to be her heir. From 1995 to 1999 Peikoff hosted a regular radio show: The Leonard Peikoff Show.
Leonard Peikoff gave a speech to cadets at the US Military Academy at West Point in 2003 on the topic of What is a Just War? , 29 years after Ayn Rand was allowed to speak there.
In 2004, Peikoff caused a stir with his election recommendation in favor of the Democrat John Kerry . For the American midterm elections in November 2006, Leonard Peikoff had also made an election recommendation in favor of the Democrats, which had sparked a sometimes heated discussion in objectivist circles.
