Harry Christlieb
Hermann Christlieb (called Harry Christlieb ; born May 26, 1886 in Cincinnati , † May 16, 1967 in Amberg ) was a German sculptor , sculptor and bronze caster.
Life
At the age of four, Hermann Christlieb became seriously ill with scarlet fever and thereby lost his hearing. At the age of 15 Christlieb began his apprenticeship as a plasterer . He then studied at the Hamburg School of Applied Arts . He was able to travel to Italy thanks to a scholarship.
Thanks to his great artistic abilities and talents, he was able to be accepted into the Munich Art Academy . In 1916 he settled in Berlin as a freelance artist. He had his studio in Kleinmachnow .
In 1945 Christlieb fled Berlin to Schleswig. Many of his sculptures stayed in Berlin. In 1950 he came to Amberg, where he and his wife Alma were taken to a reception center for refugees and displaced persons. In 1962 he created the larger than life bronze sculpture Flamingo Group at the Kurfürstenbad in Amberg.
In 1967 Hermann Christlieb died in Amberg. Manfred Raumberger acquired his studio on Sulzbacher Strasse .
Afterlife
The city of Amberg named a new street in the Sebastianviertel after him in 2012.
