Harry Höfer

Harry Höfer (born July 28, 1921 in Leipzig ; † November 9, 2007 in Münster ) was a German composer .

Life

Harry Höfer first studied music theory and horn at the "Westphalian School for Music" in Münster . After the Second World War he worked as a horn player in various orchestras. In the late 1940s he also studied composition with Franz Ludwig and Günter Bialas . In 1972 he was appointed professor for composition and music theory at the Hochschule für Musik Westfalen-Lippe . In 1986 he retired.

Works

Harry Höfer composed mainly for wind instruments, especially for natural horn , for which he also wrote music pedagogical works. His style is characterized by counterpoint, old and new techniques, classical forms, sometimes complex rhythms and the frequent use of the word.
