Harry Halbreich

Harry Leopold Halbreich (born February 9, 1931 in Berlin ; † June 27, 2016 in Uccle ) was a Belgian musicologist .

Harry Halbreich studied at the Geneva Conservatory from 1949 to 1952 , from 1952 to 1954 at the École Normale de Musique in Paris with Arthur Honegger and from 1955 to 1958 at the Conservatoire de Paris with Olivier Messiaen . 1970 to 1976 he taught music analysis at the Royal Conservatory in Mons . Lectures and seminars took him to Italy, Spain and Japan, among others. He also produced numerous radio programs a. a. for RTB in Brussels.

Halbreich's musical writings focused on composers of the 20th century, including Edgar Varèse , Olivier Messiaen, Arthur Honegger and Bohuslav Martinů . For the latter two he created extensive catalog raisonnés ; the serial numbers specified therein are preceded by the abbreviation "H.".
