The Hart River is a right tributary of the Peel River in the Yukon Territory in Canada .
The river has its origin in the mountain lake Hart Lake in the Wernecke Mountains . It initially flows in a predominantly west-northwest direction. At the confluence of Rae Creek from the left, the Hart River turns north. It forms the border between the Wernecke Mountains in the east and the Ogilvie Mountains and in the lower reaches the East Nahoni Mountains in the west. The Hart River has a length of about 300 km. It flows through the boreal taiga zone . The river has mostly grade II rapids . The Hart River can be navigated with a two-week canoe tour . A starting point for such tours is Elliott Lake , a mountain lake on the left tributary of Elliott Creek .
