Coordinates: 50 ° 3 ′ 53.4 ″  N , 8 ° 24 ′ 6.2 ″  O Hartbach is a desert in the area of today's city of Hofheim am Taunus . It is located northwest of Diedenbergen on the small brook Floß (the original name of this brook was also Hartbach), a tributary of the Weilbach . The first documentary mention of it comes from the year 1191: The Retters monastery in Hartbach received a base rate of 10 Schillings . The place was mentioned in various spellings, such as Hartbach (in the years 1191, 1222, 1282 and 1308) and Harpach (1275, 1286). The spellings Harppach and Harbach have also been handed downfrom a later period.

The name Hartbach is derived from the Middle High German Hart for forest. The location is known from a map by Wilhelm Dilich from 1608. The place had a bell ringer in 1282 , which suggests the presence of a chapel. In the same document a nobleman named Konrad von Hartbach is mentioned. In 1366 a village court was mentioned in a document.

The Hessian noble family of Falkensteiner ruled the village. In the imperial war against Philip VI. von Falkenstein in 1364/66 Hofheim and Hartbach were taken by Kurmainz . The settlement must have been abandoned by the middle of the 15th century at the latest. When the Eppstein estate was sold to Hesse in 1492, Hartbach only appears as a meadow name.
