The Hartkaiser (also Hartkaser ) is a 1553 meter high mountain in the Tyrolean Sölllandl , it is the local mountain of Ellmau . The Hartkaiser is accessed by the Hartkaiserbahn and connected to the Skiwelt Wilder Kaiser Brixental ski area .

Hartkaiserbahn

The Hartkaiserbahn on the Hartkaiser was a funicular railway running on rails , which uses the weight compensation between a valley and a mountain wagon.

2015 dismantled funicular below the mountain station

The Hartkaiserbahn was built in 1970 by VÖEST-Alpine . The manufacturer of the first car was the Swoboda company . The construction costs amounted to 36 million schillings (including station and restaurant buildings 80 million ATS), the first trip took place on 30 November 1972. In 1984, the train was equipped with new car Gangloff and increases the maximum speed to 12 m / s.

The Hartkaiserbahn was dismantled in spring 2015 and replaced by a modern single-cable gondola (10-MGD) from Doppelmayr . The opening was on December 5, 2015. A vehicle from the former Hartkaiserbahn was preserved as a memorial not far from the mountain station.

Surroundings

The mountain station is the starting point for numerous hiking trails. A small circular route was designed with a few attractions, so that the mountain is a worthwhile destination in summer, especially for families with children. A panorama path connects the Hartkaiser with the Brandstadl ( 1650  m ). The neighboring Brandstadlbahn enables a round trip that can be completed without ascent or descent.

Between Hartkaiser and Brandstadl (across the valley floor at Scheffau or Ellmau) there is a very good view of the Wilder Kaiser chain . It is very worthwhile to take a look from the panoramic roof of the mountain station, where you can see the top of the Großglockner and some other mountain ranges in the Alps when the view is clear and clear .
