Hartmann Foundation

The Hartmann'sche Foundation was a study foundation in Eppingen , a city in northwest Baden-Württemberg that existed from 1512 to 1949. The founder was Hartmannus Hartmanni (around 1472–1510), a legal scholar and canon at the Heidelberg Church of the Holy Spirit .

Shortly before his death, Hartmannus Hartmanni set up a scholarship at Heidelberg University with 500 Rhenish gold guilders . The money was invested in the Sinsheim monastery . The interest income should go to a male descendant of the Hartmanni family or citizens' sons from Eppingen to support studying in Heidelberg. The scholarship was awarded to several members of the Hartmanni family and around 20 students from Eppingen. In 1865 it was already the oldest existing Heidelberg scholarship.

After two currency reforms in the 20th century, the foundation's capital (known as the Hartmann scholarship fund ) was almost exhausted. By resolution of the Eppinger City Council on May 6, 1949, the Hartmann Foundation was dissolved and the remaining assets were assigned to the municipal assets for charitable purposes.
