Hartmut Broszinski

Hartmut Broszinski (* 1935 in Fulda ) is a German librarian and old Germanist . From 1991 until his retirement in 1997 he was head of the Fulda State Library and head of the Princely Waldeck Court Library in Arolsen .

Life

Broszinski first studied music, then German and Old German, English and musicology in Heidelberg , where he worked in 1969 with the work An Alemannic version of the 'Chirurgia parva' attributed to Guy de Chauliac . Research and critical edition of the text was promoted. He then completed his training as a librarian, from 1980 to 1991 he was head of the manuscript and music department of the State Library and Murhard Library in Kassel, which is now part of the Kassel University Library .

In 1991 Broszinski became the leading library director in Fulda and in 1994 honorary professor, in 1997 he retired. For many years, with a grant from the German Research Foundation, he researched the extensive alchemical manuscripts of the Murhard library in Kassel and published an extensive catalog of the manuscripts in 2011. In 2011 the alchemical manuscripts were also presented in an exhibition in Kassel. The alchemical manuscripts in Kassel go back to the work of Landgrave Moritz von Hessen-Kassel , also called Moritz the Scholar, who himself undertook alchemical experiments.

Broszinski has been a scientific member of the Historical Commission for Hesse since 1983 .
