There was fierce criticism after his resignation from office because he and his private company took on expert work for Deutsche Bahn soon afterwards , after his ministry had signed a lucrative transport contract with Deutsche Bahn in December 2002. A preliminary investigation against him was closed by the Neuruppin public prosecutor's office; Nevertheless, after criticism from his party in 2004, he decided not to run for another member of the state parliament. The EU Commission is still investigating the transport contract at the time.
