Hartmut Ostrowski

Hartmut Ostrowski (born February 25, 1958 in Bielefeld ) is a German manager and investor . From 2008 to 2011 he was CEO of Bertelsmann AG (now SE & Co. KGaA). Until May 2015 he sat on the Group's supervisory board . He is also a member of several advisory boards. Ostrowski has been active in and shares in various companies since the beginning of 2012.

Life

Career

After studying business administration (1977–1982) at Bielefeld University , Hartmut Ostrowski began his career in 1982 as an assistant to the management at “Bertelsmann Distribution GmbH”. There he was already head of the " Accounts Receivable Management " department in 1983 , and then in 1986 as the main department head. At the age of 29 he was an authorized signatory at the end of 1987 .

In 1988 he moved to "Security Pacific Eurofinance, Inc." in Frankfurt and later to Munich , where he set up a factoring company as managing director .

Two years later he returned to Bertelsmann. In 1996 the business graduate was appointed to the board of “Bertelsmann Industrie AG”, today's “ arvato AG ”. In September 2002 the manager succeeded Gunter Thielen and became CEO of arvato AG and a member of the Bertelsmann AG Executive Board . On January 1, 2008, he became the company's CEO. In October 2011 it was announced that Ostrowski would hand over the post to Thomas Rabe for personal reasons . In May 2012, Ostrowski was elected to the Bertelsmann Supervisory Board, which he left on May 5, 2015.

In 2012 Ostrowski started investing in companies. Through his holding company FHO Invest GmbH & Co. KG, he holds minority shares and a. to Toptranslation (online specialist translator), Talents' Friends (service provider for founding start-ups), AddApptr (marketing and optimization of advertising space in apps), Future of Work Solutions (online placement of craftsmen abroad), and to Blue Biolabs (Bacterial water analysis) and Töchter & Söhne - Society for digital helpers (online content and services relating to care for the elderly). He is also a partner in 3BO GmbH, which holds shares in Arminia Bielefeld's stadium company.

Private

Ostrowski is married and has two children. The family lives in Bielefeld.

Ostrowski is a former soccer player, longtime sponsor and since 2006 second chairman of the Bielefeld soccer club TuS Dornberg . In 2005 he played a key role in financing the artificial turf field at the Mühlenbrink sports field in Dornberg. In 2008 Ostrowski supported the youth soccer project “Kicken im Team” of the Sportjugend NRW in the Gütersloh district of Blankenhagen . In 2010, together with his wife Dagmar, he took over the planned sports facility usage fee of the city of Gütersloh in the amount of 50,000 euros for the clubs. Ostrowski has been sponsoring the “Save Kids - No child may drown!” Project run by the Bielefeld Community Foundation since 2018. On January 28, 2012, he was awarded the Medal of Honor of the State Sports Association of North Rhine-Westphalia for his commitment to the work of the club in general.

In August 2010 Ostrowski positioned himself as one of 40 prominent signatories of the Energy Political Appeal , a lobbying initiative of the four major electricity companies to promote the extension of the service life of German nuclear power plants.
