Hartmut Zwicker

Hartmut Zwicker (born July 4, 1924 in Plauen ; † November 10, 1986 in Stuttgart ) was a German physicist and from 1974 to 1986 professor of plasma research at the University of Stuttgart . From 1980 until his death he was the rector of this university.

Live and act

Hartmut Zwicker was the son of the customs inspector Rudolf Zwicker. After military service and captivity , he studied physics at the University of Göttingen and the TH Hannover from 1947–1952 . He received his doctorate in 1956, completed his habilitation in Hanover in 1962 and worked at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Garching and at the Technical University of Munich in 1965 .

In 1974 he was appointed full professor and director of the Institute for Plasma Research in Stuttgart .

After only five years, Zwicker was elected rector of the university by a large majority in early 1980. He was re-elected three times but died in 1986 at the beginning of his fourth term.
