Hartwig Haubrich

Hartwig Haubrich (born May 26, 1932 in Marienrachdorf ) is a German geographer and geography educator .

Career

After studying and teaching at various schools, Haubrich worked from 1969 to 1998 as a professor of geography and its didactics at the Freiburg University of Education. In the 1970s he was co-author of the textbook series “World and Environment”. In addition to countless other specialist publications, he was also the editor of an important manual for geography didactics, which was published in several editions. From 1974 to 1986 he was chairman and from 1976 to 2001 also head of the publication series “Geographiedidaktische Forschung” of the University Association for Geography Didactics (HGD) in the DGfG , and from 1993 to 2006 he was co-editor of the magazine “geographie heute”.

Haubrich was involved in the International Geographical Union (IGU), where he was also Chairman of the Commission Geographical Education for many years. The Charter on Geographical Education emerged from this activity. In 2008 he was awarded the IGU Lauréat d'Honneur award for this.
