Hatiora epiphylloides is a species of plant in the genus Hatiora from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet epiphylloides comes from the Greek -oides for 'to resemble' and the name of the genus Epiphyllum and refers to the branches that resemble these.

description

Hatiora epiphylloides grows epiphytically and shrubby with mostly hanging shoots . The flattened, bright green shoot segments are 2 to 3 inches long and up to 1.5 inches wide. The very small areoles have no thorns .

The sulfur-yellow flowers are 1 to 2 centimeters long.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Hatiora epiphylloides is distributed in the Brazilian states of Minas Gerais , Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo at altitudes of 800 to 2000 meters. It was first described as Rhipsalis epiphylloides in 1935 by Paulo Campos Porto and Erich Werdermann . Franz Buxbaum placed them in the Hatiora genus in 1957 .

Synonyms are Hariota epiphylloides (Porto & Werderm.) Porto & Castell. (1941, incorrect name ICBN -Article 11.4) and Pseudozygocactus epiphylloides (Porto & Werderm.) Backeb. (1942).

  • Hatiora epiphylloides subsp. epiphylloides
Plants with larger shoot segments that are not widened at the apex
  • Hatiora epiphylloides subsp. bradei (Porto & A.Cast.) Barthlott & NPTaylor
Plants with smaller shoot segments broadened at the apex

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Endangered (EN) ," d. H. listed as endangered.
