The Hattinger homes eG , briefly HWG , is a housing cooperative in Hattingen .

history

On February 5, 1899, the “savings and construction cooperative of the Protestant workers and citizens' association in Hattingen eGmbH” was founded by 49 people. The editor Johannes Holthoff became chairman of the board, and the deputy chairman of the businessman Robert Hill . The focal points of the development included “Im Heggerfeld” and “Blankensteiner Straße”.

In 1942 two other building cooperatives were connected, namely the communist "Building Cooperative Reconstruction" in Winz-Baak and the "Hattingen Non-Profit Settlement Cooperative ". The properties on "Westenfelder Straße" date back to the "General Workers' Housing" cooperative and the year 1925.

In the 1950s and 1960s, a settlement with around 1200 residential units was built in the southern part of Hattingen, which today forms the largest contiguous housing stock of the HWG.

One of the special business practices of the cooperative in 2001 was the collection of a deposit of usually DM 2000 to 3000 when moving out. In the history of the cooperative there have been a number of economic crises, new construction and renovation measures. One of the most recent projects is the reactivation of the site of the former Puth cable works . In May 2006 the managing director Burkhard Sibbe was replaced by the supervisory board due to business problems. Sibbe demanded 1 million euros in severance pay, and finally they agreed on 400,000 euros one-time payment and regular private pensions as part of the old-age provision. The architect and real estate manager was executive chairman from 1998 to 2006.

In July 2007, Erika Müller-Finkenstein, CEO of HWG, announced that she wanted to sell a total of at least 678 apartments. In order to finance modernizations in Hattingen (including Südstadt), the HWG wants to concentrate on its core area and sell the entire housing stock outside of Hattingen. There are 272 apartments in Herbede , 192 apartments in Sprockhövel , 64 in Velbert , 125 in Straße Im Westenfeld in Hattingen and individual apartments in Bochum and Hagen. According to the Bochum tenants 'association and Witten tenants' association, the tenants affected fear greater rent increases and the loss of the renovation reserves for their apartments as a result. In December 2007, RL Ruhr Liegenschaften GmbH , a purely private-sector company based in Castrop-Rauxel , became the new owner of 550 apartments outside Hattingen . The proceeds from this will be used to modernize the housing stock.

In addition to the construction of new buildings with barrier-free apartments, the planned redesign includes changes to the floor plans and the equipment of the existing housing stock as well as modernization of the building services , including the heat supply concept with the cooperation of the Geothermal Center Bochum .

At the end of 2007 the HWG eG had 6,796 members and managed 4,450 apartments, 57 commercial units and 731 garages. Erika Müller-Finkenstein and Michael Schlüsener formed the board.
