The Hill family was a merchant family in Hattingen an der Ruhr . She worked with Heinrich Hill AG in food retail and wholesale.

history

Heinrich Hill (1826–1890) opened his first grocery store on November 30, 1855 in Bredenscheid . The exact location is unknown today. His son Robert Hill (1862–1938) expanded the branch network and moved the company headquarters to Eickener Strasse. He sponsored the construction of the schools mountain tower, which was built in 1900, with 1,000 marks. His sons Paul Hill (1892–1975) and Otto Hill (1890–1959) continued the company.

The company also benefited from Aryanization . The property of the bed specialist Goldberg, Gehrenberg 12 in Herford , was sold to the Hill company in Hattingen on March 23, 1939.

In 1968 there were about 100 sales outlets; the company achieved sales of around DM 160 million.

In October 1969, the company's BSG Hill Hattingen football team registered with the company sports association BKV-Ruhrtal to play. The sports club SG Hill Hattingen later emerged from it in 1991 .

In the early 1970s, the warehouse on Eickener Strasse was enlarged. For this, the sports field of TuS Hattingen had to give way. Klaus Hill took over the company in 1972. He sold the company in 1981 to the German supermarket AG . The flag was later changed to "HL" (the Leibbrand Group logo ), then REWE. The Hillsche Villa at Holschentor was acquired by the city of Hattingen in 1980 and torn down. The Hillsche Garten was opened on the villa's property in 1982 .

REWE's central warehouse was closed in autumn 2010. The 57,400 square meter industrial site was sold to VR Leasing AG from Eschborn.

The Hill family has their grave at the Evangelical Cemetery in Hattingen . The parcel is near the entrance on Friedrichsstrasse.
