Hatto from Courtenay

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hatto von Courtenay ( French Hutton or Athon ; † after 1039) was a French nobleman. He was the first lord of Courtenay and founded the noble family of the same name as the progenitor .

He was the son and heir of Renaud, the castellan of Châteaurenard as a vassal of the Count of Sens . Presumably during the War of Succession for Burgundy between King Robert II and Otto Wilhelm of Burgundy , Hatto managed to acquire independent rule in Courtenay in what is now the Loiret department . There he built a castle around 1010 , after which his family was named from then on.

He left at least one son, Joscelin von Courtenay , who inherited him as Lord von Courtenay.
