Hatusima ( Japanese 初 島 Hatsu-shima , German 'First Island' ) is a small island off the Prince Harald coast of the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . It is located in the north-eastern sector of the Lützow-Holm Bay and belongs to the Flatvær archipelago .
Norwegian cartographers mapped them in 1946 using aerial photographs of the Lars Christensen Expedition in 1936/37 . Japanese scientists named it so in 1962 because the island was the first port of call for the Japanese Antarctic expedition, which ran from 1957 to 1962.
