Haukur Heiðar Hauksson (born September 1, 1991 ) is an Icelandic football player . The defender has been under contract in his home country and Sweden in his career so far.

Career

Haukur comes from the youth of KA Akureyri . He made his debut for the club in early 2008 in Pepsideild and quickly became a regular. In late 2011 he moved within the league to reigning champions KR Reykjavík . With his new club, he won the national cup in 2012 and played his way into the Icelandic U-21 national team . In the following year he won the championship title alongside Gary Martin , Óskar Örn Hauksson , Emil Atlason and Baldur Sigurðsson , and in 2014 he won the trophy again.

In November 2014, the Swedish club AIK announced the commitment of Haukurs, who signed a contract with the club competing in Allsvenskan until the end of 2018.

National team

After being brought into the squad as a substitute for the national team by coach Lars Lagerbäck in qualifying for the European Championship in September 2014 , Haukur made his debut as a right defender in a 1-1 draw in a friendly against Canada on January 19, 2015. Six more test matches followed before he was accepted into Iceland's squad for the European Championship in France at the end of May 2016 . At the tournament he was one of four field players who were not used.
