The main fire station Berliner Tor is a listed building of the Hamburg fire brigade at the Berliner Tor in Hamburg-St. George .

Description and history

The building was built between 1914 and 1922 according to plans by Fritz Schumacher , destroyed during the Second World War in 1944 and then rebuilt until 1953.

It is a three-winged building with brick facades and high hipped mansard roofs . In the inner courtyard there is a hose tower with openings in the facade, which were originally intended for training purposes. The south facade had arched gates and bay windows , which, however, were not rebuilt during the reconstruction. The buildings at Westphalensweg 1 contained the fire brigade headquarters and a fire station as well as apartments. After a renovation in the 1990s, the former apartment of the office manager is used by the office of the volunteer fire brigade.

The rooms in the southern part of the building are now used by the Hamburg professional fire brigade as a fire and rescue station F 22. The office management, the press office, the administrative department and the preventive fire and hazard protection department are also located here.
