The main fire station in Favoriten in the 10th district of Vienna is one of the nine main fire stations of the Vienna professional fire brigade .
Fire department in Favoriten
The first professional fire brigade in Favoriten was housed in the house of the innkeeper Kasimir Reisinger in Favoritenstrasse 65. Two men and the support of chimney sweeps and roofers were the crew that had a fire engine and a water truck as equipment. After the construction of the office building for the 10th district in Laxenburger Strasse , the fire station was relocated there, integrated into the Vienna professional fire brigade , staffed up and equipped with more modern equipment.
Building history
The main fire station Favoriten at Sonnwendgasse 14 was established in 1909 as the first main fire station of the Vienna professional fire brigade on the site of the Favoriten gasworks, which closed in 1899 . The vehicle hall with the five gates was created from the conversion of an existing building (Reiniger-Haus). The so-called practice house, the hose drying tower with a four-storey practice facade, was attached to it. The officers' building was rebuilt.
The main fire station in Favoriten was equipped with five electric automobiles, but there were also reserve vehicles for horse harnessing and stables with ancillary rooms (feed room, harness room) for seven horses. During the Second World War, the main fire station was badly damaged, so that it was largely rebuilt and reopened on October 6, 1951. The necessary plans come from the architect Brandstätter. Of the originally erected buildings, only the single, former residential building for fire brigade members, which is a listed building, has survived . The base of a clock in a green area was designed by Wander Bertoni .
Application area
The main fire station in Favoriten, together with the train fire station in Simmering and the group station in Rudolfshügel (Favoriten), forms fire protection section 3. Together they look after the districts of Wieden, Margareten, Favoriten, Simmering and parts of the districts of Landstrasse and Liesing. In 2007, 34 emergency services, a fire extinguisher, a large tank fire engine and a motorcycle squadron were on duty in the building.
