The main key Erbstollen is a mining tunnel in the Upper Silesian industrial area , which was built from 1799 to 1863 for drainage. The mouth hole, where all the water came to light, is located in the city of Zabrze (German: Hindenburg OS ). It was used to drain the Königin-Luise-Grube in Zaborze and the Königsgrube of the Königshütte in Königshütte OS and to transport the mining products by boat to the Klodnitz Canal . This also happened via the Beuthen water, which connected the mouth hole and the canal.

history

The initiator and planner of the building of the Erbstollen was Count Friedrich Wilhelm von Reden . On July 13, 1799, work began on the 14 kilometer long underground construction from what was then Alt-Zabrze to Königshütte . On October 18, 1800 the inauguration of the master key Erbstollen took place in the presence of State Minister Baron Karl August von Hardenberg and Count Friedrich Wilhelm von Reden.

In 1951 the ornately designed mouth hole (with the year 1791, the slogan " Glück auf! " And a coat of arms with the mining symbols of mallets and iron and a crown in the shield) was removed, and the access to the tunnel walled up. Since 2008, the area around the tunnel exit has been revitalized and a tourist information office was built. The mouth hole was also restored. A stretch of the tunnel 2.5 kilometers in length is to be made accessible for tourist purposes in the future.
