The residential and commercial building main road 89 in Herne-Eickel is under monument protection standing monument . The building opposite the sports park was built in 1929 based on a design by the architectural office Revermann and Gobrecht for the Wanne-Eickel electricity supply, which was transferred to Stadtwerke Herne in 1975 as part of the merger of the cities of Wanne-Eickel and Herne to form the new city of Herne.

description

The three-and-a-half- storey structure (three full and one jamb ) is around 42 meters wide and around 11.5 meters deep. The courtyard is accessed from the rear via Harkortstrasse. The building, which was built in an Art Deco style, reflected the high demands of the city of Wanne-Eickel for a sophisticated urban design at the time of its construction. A partial destruction during the Second World War in the middle area was restored by the architect Robert Kaul based on the original condition in 1946, without reconstructing it. The central entrance opens up to the former reception hall of the Stadtwerke behind it. Its furniture still shows the design of the 1950s and is now used as a café .

In contrast to the other buildings in Wanne-Eickel by the Bauhaus students Revermann and Gobrecht, this building does not have a clinker facade, but rather is characterized by the use of natural stone panels with which the ground floor as well as the middle biaxial part and the window reveals were designed.

The entry of the building at Hauptstrasse 89 in the list of monuments of the city of Herne took place on September 13, 2011 (monument no. A 716).
