The castle Blomendal (also called Hus Blomendal or house Blomendal known) is a medieval moated castle in Bremen district Blumenthal and the oldest secular building in Bremen. history

Area of the old castle hill

In the 13th century, the knights of Oumünde (von Aumund) built the first castle in Blomendal in the area of Lüssum on the castle hill above the Auetal, which was destroyed in 1305 during the Bremen council feud . In 1354, the second Blomendal castle was built by the knights. The gentlemen from Oumünde, Diderich von Reken and Johann von der Hude were mentioned as owners.

In 1436 the knights Johann and Otto von Borch sold " dat slot Blomendale " for 1400 Rhenish guilders to the Bremen council . Bremen leased the house with its extensive income to deserving councilors or mayors for ten years each.

In 1542 the Mayor of Bremen Diedrich Hoyer the Elder moved in as a tenant in Blomendal. His son Erich Hoyer , also Bremen's mayor, commissioned the painting on the ceiling that was still preserved.

From the 16th century onwards, Blomendal Castle only served as an administrative and court seat and thus became the "Blomendal Office". From 1638 to 1652 Johann Hoppe officiated here as a meritorious Vogt; a street in Blumenthal was named after him.

In the run-up to the First Bremen-Swedish War in 1653, Swedish troops under Count Königsmarck occupied this castle (now called "House Blomendal"), as well as the places Lesum and Burg.

In the Second Stade Settlement of 1742, the Blomendal house was detached from its connection to Bremen and awarded to the Electorate of Braunschweig-Lüneburg .

With the annexation of the Kingdom of Hanover by Prussia in 1866, Blumenthal also came under Prussian administration. Under District Administrator Paul Berthold , the District Office of the Blumenthal district was set up in 1884 on Blomendal House. In the course of the incorporation of Blumenthals into Bremen, Blomendal Castle fell back to Bremen in 1939.
