The Beckedorfer Beeke in Schwanewede-Beckedorf

The Beckedorfer Beeke is a left tributary of the Blumenthaler Aue . It is classified as a near-natural Geestbach.

The Beckedorfer Beeke rises in Lower Saxony east of Schwanewede- Löhnhorst , flows from there to the south, west and southwest, crosses the state border with Bremen and then flows through the Bremen district of Vegesack in a west-southwest direction , where it also crosses the Hammersbecker Wiesen nature reserve and, from the left, the Kifkenbruchgraben , then runs again in Lower Saxony to the west through Schwanewede- Beckedorf and then reaches Bremen again. There it runs along the Löhwald through the Blumenthal district to the southwest, until it finally flows into the Blumenthaler Aue at Blomendal Castle .

Surname

The village of Beckedorf was named after the stream ( Low German : Beck (e) , Beek (e) ) on which it was located. Later the brook was named after the village Beckedorf as Beckedorfer Beeke .

State of water in Bremen

The Beckedorfer Beeke is a body of water with a catchment area of less than 10 km² and therefore does not fall under the body of water that has been to be sampled since 2000 according to the requirements of the EU Water Framework Directive. Up to the year 2000 the Beckedorfer Beeke was regularly classified according to the water quality criteria of the Federal / State Working Group on Water (LAWA), since 2000 there have been annual water quality tests.

During heavy rain , rainwater gets into the Beeke and can negatively affect the water quality. To reduce the pollution, several rain clarification basins were built on the Beckedorfer Beeke in 2003 and 2004, in which the rainwater is pre-cleaned.

To improve the habitat quality of the water, a near-natural section was created parallel to the Burgwall road in 2009, in which the course of the Beckedorfer Beeke was extended and the future development of the course is subject to natural dynamics. In addition, a natural sand trap was built to reduce the sand load.
