Beckedorf ( Low German Beckdorp ) is a district of the community Schwanewede in the district of Osterholz in Lower Saxony . The locations Fredeholz, Rosenbusch, Sandfurt, Schwankenfurt, Vollershagen and Wölpsche belong to Beckedorf.
location
The site is bordered to the west, south and east by the Bremer neighborhoods Blumenthal and Vegesack and therefore has few connections with the rest of the municipality. The Beckedorfer Beeke , which gives it its name, is a Geestbach that flows into the Weser via the Blumenthaler Aue in Blumenthal .
history
In the first written mention of Beckedorf from 1260, the village is referred to as a farming community. Based on urn finds, however, it is assumed that there was a settlement here as early as the Bronze Age . The oldest house still in existence today dates from 1535.
Beckedorf belonged to the Blumenthal office . In 1436 this bailiwick was acquired by Bremen as a pledge. The administration of the entire administrative district was carried out from around 1600 by an official sent by the Bremen Senate. After the First Bremen-Swedish War, however, Bremen had to cede its claims to the district and thus to Beckedorf to Sweden in the First Stade settlement . Bremen, however, retained the right of patronage over the churches in the district and managed Sweden's administration. This condition was confirmed in the Peace of habenhausen after the Second Bremen-Swedish War in 1666. In 1712, the Blumenthal district and the rest of the Swedish possessions in the Duchy of Bremen fell to Denmark, which in 1719 sold these areas to Hanover . In the Second Stade Settlement , Bremen finally waived its claims to the Blumenthal office, but retained the right of patronage over church matters. From 1885 Beckedorf was part of the newly founded Blumenthal district , which was opened up in the Osterholz district in 1932 .
When the area was reorganized on November 1, 1939, Beckedorf remained as an independent municipality in the Osterholz district, while a large area of the Blumenthal district of Bremen was added. This resulted in the "island location" of the place, as the neighboring communities were assigned to the city of Bremen . In 1954 the council applied for a connection to the city of Bremen, which was rejected by the Lower Saxony state government in 1956. Since two federal states would have been affected during the reorganization , a referendum would have been necessary here .
On March 1, 1974 Beckedorf was incorporated into the community of Schwanewede.
Beckedorf's population was around 1,400 at the end of 2006.

Culture and sights
Beckedorfer Schmiedemuseum
The "Wildhacksche Waldschmiede" founded in 1812 is well worth seeing. After the handicraft business was closed, an agreement was reached in 1988 between the community of Schwanewede and the owner family on the preservation of the building with the historic smithy . The Beckedorfer Schmiedemuseum , which opened there in 1996, has been run by the association of the same name ever since. It is mainly dedicated to the blacksmith's trade in the 19th century. In addition to a fully functional blacksmith's forge , bellows and historical tools documents, working drawings and forged products in a small exhibition space will be issued. A journeyman's chamber and a special exhibition on the importance of blacksmithing for whaling for the Bremen-North region in the 19th century can also be visited.
The small museum is open every Friday afternoon except on public holidays and can also be visited by appointment. In addition, various blacksmithing courses are offered. Every May 1st, a “blacksmith's festival” is held around the forge and the restaurant “Zur Waldschmiede” opposite (with beer garden) and is accompanied by various activities such as blacksmithing demonstrations in the blacksmith's museum and on the open-air site.
