Rade is a district of the municipality Schwanewede in the district of Osterholz in Lower Saxony . The Fährplate peninsula belongs to the district .
Geographical location
Rade has an area of approx. 22 km² and is on average 2 meters above sea level. Only the dikes to the Weser are significantly higher. The storm surges of 1570 and 1685 destroyed the village.
The Weser originally ran much closer to the place. Only after the Weser correction was the fairway shifted so that the island of Harriersand now lies between Rade and the Weser. Rade to the peninsula belongs Fährplate .
history
Historically, Rade is the oldest village on the Osterstader Marsch. It was first mentioned in a document around 1100.
Rade originally belonged to the Hagen office , but then came to the Blumenthal office in 1885 . In 1966, Rade was included in the joint community of Neuenkirchen .
On March 1, 1974, Rade was incorporated into the community of Schwanewede.
traffic
The village road was expanded in 1840. Between 1911 and 1931 there was a railway connection with the Niederweserbahn from Farge via Wulsdorf to Wesermünde , today's Bremerhaven . Today the public transport is limited to a bus connection of the transport association Bremen / Lower Saxony (VBN) to Neuenkirchen (line 650) and one directly to Schwanewede and Harriersand (line 643 with ferry connection to Brake ).
