History and architecture

The two- to three-storey, eaves - standing half-timbered house was built in 1879 for August Derr by the carpenters Windschild and Diestel in the second fortress paleon. It was one of the so-called rayon houses , which were built in accordance with special building regulations in advance of the Magdeburg Fortress and had to be built in such a way that they could be demolished quickly in the event of war. Until 1891, only half-timbered buildings with brick infills were allowed in this area. The plastered eight-axis, strictly symmetrical facade was simply designed. In front of the four central axes there was a three-storey, ten- bulk central risalit dominating the appearance , which was crowned by a flat triangular gable and which also contained the central gate passage. The gate was designed with two wings and was provided with structured infill mirrors and a grooved skylight. The building comprised a total of 20 containers in length and seven in width. The building was covered by a collar beam roof, braced with a double-standing chair. The building had a partial basement.

In 1933 the street-side facade was plastered. On the back there was still the half-timbered facade from the construction period, the compartments of which were stiffened with cross braces.

Inside the building there was a two-flight wooden staircase with an intermediate landing and twist railing. The floor plans inside were two rooms deep and accessed via a walk-through room.

In the local register of monuments , the house was recorded as a monument under registration number 094 82742 .

It was considered an urban and architecturally significant rayon house and was located in an area in which several houses of this type have been or were preserved.

The building stood empty for many years and was in urgent need of renovation. However, due to a security order from the building supervision, the house was demolished in December 2016 and removed from the monument register in 2017.
