The house malt is a four-column-timbered house in the East Westphalian town of Vlotho in the Herford district in North Rhine-Westphalia . The hallway house, which is particularly well preserved from the outside and inside , has been a listed building since 1985.

description

The building was erected in 1684 by the carpenter Henrick Helle for the merchant Otto Heinrich Schürmann. On the north side of the house is the entrance gate and a right-hand loft . Around 1784, as part of a renovation, the entrance gate, still preserved today, with a star-shaped latticed skylight was installed. Above the gate is the coat of arms of the Tübingen fraternity Derendingia , to which several members of the Malz family belonged. Inside the merchant's house there is a large hallway that horse-drawn carts could enter. With the help of a built-in elevator, goods could be transported to the warehouse floors. The entire house has a U-shaped basement. In 1834 the house was bought by the Malz family.

The last owner of the house, Dr. Ulrich Malz (1925–2018) set up a local history museum in the building after his family moved out in 1985. Since 2003, the building has been in the care of the German Foundation for Monument Protection as the "Haus Malz Foundation" . In September 2006 the House of Malz was named Monument of the Month in Westphalia-Lippe . The portal of the House of Malz is shown on a special greeting card from the German Foundation for Monument Protection (2014). Between 2015 and 2016, the historic garden at Haus Malz was restored and is now open to visitors as a small city garden.
