history

The present part of town in Bremerhaven, founded in mid-1827, grew towards the north at the end of the 19th century to the limit of the neighboring independent Prussian municipality of Lehe . By 1905, Bremerhaven acquired considerable new areas in this area as far as Weddewarden. Several four to five-story buildings were built on today's Mayor-Martin-Donandt-Platz.

The five-storey, plastered residential and commercial building with a mansard roof , loggias and bay windows was built in 1905 in the era of historicism and at the turn of the century in the neo-baroque style for master painter Martin Hoffmann. It is characterized by the large rounded gable facing the Bürgermeister-Martin-Donandt-Platz. A little turret above this gable was not preserved after 1944/45. A craftsman's coat of arms refers to its earlier meaning as a house of crafts.

Today's (2018) House of Crafts with the Bremerhaven-Wesermünde District Craftsmen's Association is located in Geestemünde , Columbusstrasse 2.

In the house at Martin-Donandt-Platz 22 / Bürgermeister-Smidt-Straße 133 there are apartments, practices, shops and offices.
