Alfred Peltzer

Alfred Peltzer (born August 16, 1875 in Krefeld , † December 31, 1914 in Pützchen ) was a German art historian .

Life

The Krefeld velvet manufacturer Gustav Peltzer (1844–1897) married Laura ter Meer (* 1850) from Krefeld on July 19, 1871. The couple had children Alfred, Klara (* 1877) and Walther (* 1880).

Alfred Peltzer made at the Krefeld secondary schools graduated from high school and worked a year later in his father's business. After he had acquired the missing Greek , he studied philosophy , history , art history , literary history and classical archeology in Heidelberg and Vienna . During the semester break he went on art history study trips to Italy. When Henry Thode Peltzer was in 1899 at the University of Heidelberg with a thesis on German mysticism and German art Dr. phil. PhD . In 1902 followed - also in Heidelberg - the habilitation with the treatise on painting style and style in Dutch art . On November 8, 1902, after a public trial lecture - entitled The Aesthetic Meaning of Goethe's Theory of Colors - he received the Venia legendi and worked in Heidelberg as a private lecturer. On December 25, 1909, he was appointed associate professor of art history. After Thode resigned his professorship in 1911, Peltzer also left Heidelberg University in December 1912 and moved to Weimar to study .

Scientifically, Peltzer mainly deals with topics related to the history of art in Heidelberg, as well as with Goethe and his relationships with art and artists. In Thieme-Becker he wrote about Anthoni ( master employed at the Ottheinrichsbau of Heidelberg Castle ) and about Philipp Hieronymus Brinckmann .
