The house Neufert in Weimar district Gelmeroda in Thuringia is a two story residential and studio house of wood , that of the Bauhaus -trained architect in Weimar Ernst Neufert Built in 1929 for his family. It is a listed building .

Description and history

The single-family house was a prototype for a planned series of wooden houses on an area of 10 × 10 meters in the meter system, from which the room sizes and the construction grid are derived. The common rooms are on the ground floor and four private bedrooms for parents, grandparents and children on the upper floor. Half of the ground floor is taken up by the living room with library, which is generously lit from three sides. The study and kitchen are in the back of the house. In the basement, which is built from stone, there are storage, storage and service rooms.

The house was built from prefabricated wooden elements on a 9000 m² plot of land in quick construction. After two days the topping-out ceremony was held and after six weeks it was ready for occupancy. When Ernst Neufert went to Berlin in 1930, he had only used the house for a short time. It subsequently had several owners and over time it was forgotten. After the fall of the Wall , Neufert's son Peter Neufert bought it in 1991 and had it restored to its original state through a restoration. Today the Ernst Neufert Foundation and the Design Transfer Center of the Bauhaus University Weimar have their headquarters in the building. In 1999 Peter Neufert had the Neufert-Box built on the property as an exhibition hall on 12 floors.

meaning

The building, which was revolutionary at the time, is an example of the norms and standardizations introduced by Neufert in the building sector, which he laid down in 1936 in the standard work building design theory . For him it was a test house to bring the timber frame construction he developed into practice. American wooden frame constructions served as a model. The house is the only example of the Bauhaus built in Weimar, along with the Am Horn model house .
