The house on Kreuzgasse in the hamlet of Schwarzenmatt in Boltigen in the Simmental in the canton of Bern is a listed small farmhouse from the 16th century.

description

The house has a brick base and a wooden knitted part above it, a stable extension on the back, a simple, south-facing facade and a garden in front. The house on Kreuzgasse is one of the earliest dated buildings in Boltigen and a rare example of this type of smallholder farm. It is originally one room wide and a second room deep wooden structure, which was built in 1556 in a typical regional manner. The cellar is half deep, the facade is plain. In 1705, an economic part with a small cattle barn and a hay room was added to extend the deadline. Around 1900 the ground floor was widened by one room. Some other changes were made in the mid-20th century, e.g. B. The three existing windows on the upper floor were enlarged and another one added. The wooden fireplace in the kitchen was removed and a ceiling was put in.

The Stiftung Ferien im Baudenkmal has extensively renovated the house in collaboration with the preservation authorities . The renovation offered the opportunity to reverse unsightly changes from the 20th century and to make the characteristics of the house more visible again. The kitchen is again two-story, the upper rooms are accessed via a gallery. In the room there is again a brick oven. The upper bedrooms were freed from the paneling from the 1950s and supplemented with a modern installation. The new wet cell was created in the economy part as a separate installation.
