The house for widths stove is a town house of the Renaissance on the northern edge of the fish market (number 13) in the old city of Erfurt . It is one of the most magnificent and well-known Renaissance buildings in the city.

history

The house at the Breiten Herd was built in 1584 by order of the mayor and councilor Heinrich von Denstedt . A baroque summer house with a hall is hidden behind the house on the property; This was built in 1727 by the then owner, the Braunschweig emissary, Privy Councilor Christoph Schulze. In 1734 the house was combined with the former neighboring house "Zum Stötzel" when the von Münchhausen family from Herrengosserstedt bought it. During the Erfurt Prince Congress in 1808, Friedrich August I of Saxony lived in the house; Napoleon paid him a solemn visit here with his marshals.

architecture

The polychrome facade design of the Renaissance was reconstructed in 1968. On the first floor of the facade there are personalized representations of the five senses, which were designed according to a template by Frans Floris from Antwerp . There are gaff heads in the gables of the windows on the upper floors . At the top of the house is a figure who embodies a mercenary . The facade decoration was made in the workshop of Hans Friedemann the Elder.

The house at the Breiten Herd became the model for the Guild House , which was built in two construction phases in 1882/83 and 1892/93 in the neo-renaissance style to the right of the Breiten Herd (house numbers 14-16). In a fire on July 17, 2008 in the Italian restaurant on the ground floor of the Gildehaus, the house at the Breiten Herd was also damaged.
