Hawke's Bay Today is New Zealand's sixth largest regional daily and, along with The Dominion Post, is one of the country's youngest regular newspapers.

Hawke's Bay Today created by the merger of in Napier appearing The Daily Telegraph and from Hastings come Hawke's Bay Herald-Tribune . The paper first appeared on May 3, 1999.

Daily Telegraph

The Daily Telegraph appeared as a liberal newspaper and in competition with the conservative Hawke's Bay Herald for the first time on February 1, 1871. 1982 Hawkes Bay News Limited took over the paper together with the Hawke's Bay Tribune . Both newspapers initially kept their names and continued to produce their own editions. The Telegraph was discontinued on May 1, 1999 .

Hawke's Bay Herald-Tribune

The Hawke's Bay Herald-Tribune first appeared in January 1937 and was created from the merger of the two daily newspapers Hawke's Bay Herald and Hawke's Bay Tribune . After the merger with the Daily Telegraph , the Herald-Tribune was discontinued on May 1, 1999 .

Hawke's Bay Herald

The first publication of the Hawke's Bay Herald can be dated to September 24, 1857, initially under the name Hawke's Bay Herald and Ahuriri Advocate , but from 1858 without the addition and Ahuriri Advocate . From 1879 on, the Hawke's Bay Weekly Courier was also published for 18 years . After the merger with the Hawke's Bay Tribune , the Herald appeared for the last time on January 16, 1937.

Hawke's Bay Tribune

The Hawke's Bay Tribune arose from the Hastings Standard , founded in 1896, and was first published in 1910. After the Hawke's Bay earthquake of February 3, 1931 , the newspaper company took over printing the Hawke's Bay Herald and merged with it in January 1937.
