The Hawke's Bay Herald-Tribune was a regional daily newspaper in New Zealand based in Hastings . The newspaper was founded in 1999 after the merger with the Daily Telegraph from Napier set.

history

The Hawke's Bay Herald-Tribune emerged from a merger of the two newspapers Hawke's Bay Herald of Napier and Hawke's Bay Tribune of Hastings in 1937. engine of the merger was William Arthur Whitlock , who in 1933 returned to Hastings came the business of the Hawke's Bay Tribune of his father took over and after the merger of the two newspapers under Hawke's Bay Newspapers Limited continued to run the Herald-Tribune in Hastings in competition with the Daily Telegraph in Napier as an evening edition.

But the decisive factor for the merger was the severe earthquake of February 3, 1931 , in which the newspaper house of the Hawke's Bay Herald in Napier was completely destroyed and the editions of the Herald that appeared after the quake were printed at the Tribune in Hastings . The merger inevitably resulted from this situation.

In November 1997, the Hawke's Bay Herald-Tribune was taken over with 15 other New Zealand newspapers and media companies by W & H Newspapers Limited , which in turn was bought by APN New Zealand in 1996 and is now part of the Australian media group APN News & Media .

In 1999 the Hawke's Bay Herald-Tribune was discontinued together with the Daily Telegraph as a daily newspaper and the editorial offices were merged to form the newly established Hawke's Bay Today .
