Some New Zealand newspapers

List of New Zealand newspaper The first newspaper in New Zealand , the New Zealand Gazette , was in on 21 August 1839 London Samuel Revans out. It was followed on April 18, 1840 by the second edition in Petone in New Zealand, then still a colony. A short time later, in May 1840, the New Zealand Advertiser came out, which, with the addition of the Bay of Islands Gazette, became the forerunner for the public announcements of the then New Zealand colonial government, but could not stay on the market for more than seven months because of articles critical of the government and in December 1840 was set again.

In the following years and especially during the founding period , many people came to New Zealand due to the numerous gold discoveries . With them, the need for information grew. Numerous newspapers emerged, initially in a weekly publication , and later in daily. But only a few of them survived the past 160 years, which were characterized by fierce competition and crowding out and concentration on the newspaper market. Apart from a few small independent newspapers and the Otago Daily Times , two media groups now dominate the New Zealand newspaper market, Fairfax Media Limited and NZME. Publishing Limited to APN News & Media . Both Australian media groups, with APN News & Media trying since 2014 to manage all business activities in the areas of newspapers, radio and events via the mobile phones , tablets and Internet platforms in New Zealand via the NZME brand . Promote New Zealand Media and Entertainment .
