The Rotorua Daily Post is a daily regional newspaper in New Zealand . Its catchment area is on the North Island in the southern part of the Bay of Plenty region and in the eastern part of the Waikato region . The newspaper is based in Rotorua .

history

The Rotorua Daily Post has its origins in the Hot Lakes Chronicle, founded in 1885 . The paper, which appeared for the first time on June 6, 1885, was published weekly, although the start of the newspaper was not without problems. In 1895 the Scottish newspaper maker Francis F. Watt bought himself a partner in the newspaper and later took over the Chronicle completely. After his death in 1890, his wife continued to run the newspaper business until the Scottish businessman David Gardner took over the newspaper in 1902 . In 1916 Gardner merged the two newspapers Hot Lakes Chronicle and Rotorua Times , and after his father's death in 1918, his son published the newspaper as a daily evening paper under the name Rotorua Chronicle .

In 1931 the Rotorua Chronicle was taken over by the Bay of Plenty Publishing Company , which at the time was the Whakatane County Press . The new owner renamed the paper the Rotorua Morning Post and had the newspaper published again in the morning. In 1947, the morning was dropped from the name, as the frequency of publication was changed again and moved to the afternoon, so the name was Rotorua Post . In 1960 the paper was renamed again and was called The Daily Post . The last renaming for the time being took place on March 11, 2013, when the newspaper got its current name from then on.

There is probably no newspaper in New Zealand that has been renamed as often in its long history as the Rotorua Daily Post .
