The Wairarapa Times-Age is a daily regional newspaper in New Zealand . Its catchment area is in the southern part of the North Island in the Wellington region . The newspaper is based in Masterton

history

The Wairarapa Times-Age was created on April 1, 1938 through the merger of the two newspapers Wairarapa Age , which was founded in 1881 as Wairarapa Star , and the Wairarapa Daily Times , which first appeared in 1878 as Wairarapa Daily . In 2002 the Wairarapa Times-Age went to the company Wilson & Horton , which already published the New Zealand Herald and was owned by the Australian APN News & Media Limited (APN).

Wairarapa Daily Times

The first newspaper in Wairarapa , the Wairarapa Standard , was published on August 17, 1872 in Greytown by the teacher Joseph Payton together with his father-in-law Richard Wakelin . However northeast of Greytown developed Masterton to a center of the region and so went Payton to Masterton and gave in November 1878 together with partners with the Wairarapa Daily , the first appearing daily newspaper in the region out. The newspaper had four pages and was designed as an evening edition. In 1892 the newspaper was renamed the Wairarapa Daily Times . When Joseph Payton died in 1910, the paper remained in family ownership and merged with the Wairarapa Age to form the Wairarapa Times-Age in 1938 .

Wairarapa Age

The Wairarapa Star was founded in 1881 as a competitor to the Wairarapa Daily and had numerous owners over the years up to its merger with the Wairarapa Daily Times in 1938. One of the most interesting of these was Guy Hardy Scholefield , journalist, historian and librarian. He was a partner, director and editor of the newspaper from 1921 to 1926 and the editor of the 1940 edition of A Dictionary of New Zealand Biography .

Group affiliation

The Wairarapa Times-Age is owned by the New Zealand NZME. Publishing Limited , which was renamed APN Holdings NZ Limited in January 2015 . The NZME. Publishing Limited is owned by the Australian company APN News & Media Limited (APN), which is part of the Irish media group Independent News & Media .
