Haworthia coarctata is a species of the genus Haworthia in the subfamily of the Affodilla family (Asphodeloideae).

description

Haworthia coarctata grows stem-forming and sprouting. The numerous, upright or inwardly curved leaves form a rosette with a diameter of up to 12 centimeters. The brownish green leaf blade is up to 7 inches long and 2 inches wide. The ratio of shoot diameter to blade width is 1: 1.7. The leaf surface is rough. There are usually rounded warts on it.

The simple or occasionally branched inflorescence reaches a length of up to 60 centimeters. The upside-down flower tube is curved and the tepals are rolled back.

Systematics and distribution

Haworthia coarctata is widespread in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa.

The first description by Adrian Hardy Haworth was published in 1824. Nomenclatory synonyms are Aloe coarctata (Haw.) Roem. & School f. (1829), Haworthia reinwardtii subsp. coarctata (Haw.) Halda (1997) and Haworthia reinwardtii var. coarctata (Haw.) Halda (1997).
