Haworthia maculata is a species of the genus Haworthia in the subfamily of the Affodil family (Asphodeloideae).

description

Haworthia maculata grows stemless and sprouts. The numerous upright to spreading, ovate-lanceolate leaves form a rosette with a diameter of up to 8 centimeters. The purple-green leaf blade is 6 inches long and 1 inch wide. It is speckled with colorless dots. There are short thorns on the leaf edge and the leaf keel .

The inflorescence is slender and consists of 15 to 20 flowers , only a few of which are open at the same time. The white flowers have a yellowish throat and green veins.

Systematics and distribution

Haworthia maculata is widespread in the Western Cape province of South Africa.

The first description as Haworthia schuldtiana var. Maculata by Karl von Poellnitz was published in 1940. Martin Bruce Bayer raised the variety to the rank of a species in 1976.

A distinction is made between the following varieties :

  • Haworthia maculata var. Intermedia (Poelln.) MBBayer
