Hayashi Yoshihide

Hayashi Yoshihide ( Japanese 林 義 秀 ; born August 25, 1891 in Wakayama Prefecture , Japan ; † February 5, 1978 ) was a lieutenant general in the Imperial Japanese Army .

Life

Born in Wakayama Prefecture Hayashi graduated 1914 Imperial Japanese Army Academy in 1923, the Imperial Japanese Army Academy from. First he was transferred to the Kwantung Army , where he was a member of the planning staff for the successful Chahar operation at the beginning of the Second Sino-Japanese War .

In 1938 he was transferred to the garrison troops stationed on Taiwan , where he worked from 1940 in the research department of the Taiwan Army with the planning of the Japanese invasion of Southeast Asia . His main field was warfare under tropical conditions.

After his promotion to major general in the course of 1941, Hayashi was deputy chief of staff of the 14th Regional Army until 1942 . In 1943 he became the commander of the 54th Division.

From 1943 to 1945 he was in command of the 24th Mixed Brigade in Burma . In 1945 he was promoted to Lieutenant General and was given command of the 53rd Division, which was also fighting in Burma. After Japan surrendered , he was interned in Manila until July 1953 , where the possibility of being involved in war crimes was examined .
