Heřman Antonín Jelínek

Heřman Antonín Jelínek (also: Hermann Anton Gelinek ; born August 8, 1709 in Hořiněves , † December 5, 1779 in Milan ) was a Czech composer and violin virtuoso.

Life

Jelínek entered the Premonstratensian monastery in Seelau in 1728 . He studied in Vienna and was ordained a priest there. After his return, Jelínek became a violinist, organist and choirmaster of the Seelau monastery. The church music activity did not fulfill Jelínek, twice he escaped from the monastery and performed publicly. From 1760 he lived as a violin virtuoso in Paris and performed a. a. before Louis XV on. He then toured Italy, where he used the stage name Cervetti . He composed church music, sonatas and violin concertos. A large part of the manuscripts of his sacred compositions is in the Želiv monastery .

His brother Jan Jelínek (* around 1710 in Hořiněves, † around 1780 in Prague ) was a Czech organist and composer. He worked as an organist in various churches in Prague. A volume of lute music from him has survived. His church music works have been lost.
