Hey Guoqiang

He Guoqiang ( Chinese  贺国强 , Pinyin Hè Guóqiǎng ; born October 1943 in Xiangxiang , Hunan Province ) is a Chinese communist politician. He was the head of the Organization Department of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and from October 2007 to November 2012 a member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo and secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission at the Central Committee (Central Committee ).

Studies and professional career

He graduated from 1961 to 1966 with a degree in inorganic chemistry at the Institute of Chemical Engineering in Beijing . He joined the CCP in January 1966. After completing his studies and graduation as a chemical engineer, he worked for a short time at the Institute of Chemical Engineering from September 1966, before he worked from 1967 to 1978 as a technician, director and party secretary of the laboratory for artificial production in a fertilizer factory in Shandong Province . Then he was Deputy Director and Deputy Chief Engineer of this fertilizer factory until 1980.

From 1980 to 1982, he served as the director of the control department of the Chemical and Petroleum Industry Bureau of the Shandong Provincial Government. He was then Deputy General Director and from 1984 to 1986 General Director of this office.

Party secretary

In 1982 he was elected as a candidate for the Central Committee at the 12th Party Congress of the CCP. He became a member of the Standing Committee of the Shandong Province Party Committee in 1986 . In this office he was first deputy secretary and then secretary of the Jinan City Party Committee from 1987 to 1991 .

From 1991 to 1996 he was Deputy Minister for the Chemical Industry and Deputy Secretary of the Ministry's party organization. In 1996 he was appointed Deputy Secretary of the Fujian Province Party Committee . In this office he was first lieutenant governor and acting governor, before he was also governor of Fujian from 1997 to 1999. He was also elected a member of the Central Committee in 1997 at the 15th Congress of the CCP. From 1999 to 2002 he was secretary of the Chongqing City Party Committee .

Since the 16th CCP Congress in 2002, he has been Head of Organization Department and a member of the Secretariat of the CCP Central Committee. At the same time he was elected member of the Politburo of the Central Committee. He joined the CCP's extended leadership team. He was also elected a member of the Standing Committee of the CCP Political Bureau and Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission at the Central Committee at the 2007 CCP's 17th Congress. In these functions he replaced his predecessor Wu Guanzheng . He was part of the internal leadership of the CCP. In November 2012, he retired from all positions due to age at the 18th CCP Congress.
