He Miao ( Chinese 何 苗 ; * 2nd century in Wancheng , Nanyang ; † 189 in Luoyang ) was a general of the Han Dynasty in ancient China .

Life

He Miao was the younger brother of Empress He and He Jin, Commander in Chief of the Imperial Army . In the 170s he joined the imperial entourage and was artistic director in Henan for some time . During the Yellow Turban Revolt in 187 , he put down an uprising in Yingchuan. He then held the post of general of the cavalry. One of his subordinates in this office was dignitary Ying Shao. When his older brother He Jin came into conflict with the powerful eunuchs at court and wanted to kill them, He Miao tried unsuccessfully to dissuade him. After the eunuchs in turn took the initiative and murdered He Jin, He Miao incorporated his troops into the army of Yuan Shao , who led the campaign of revenge against the eunuchs. However, He Miao was probably held responsible for his brother's death, also because he arrived too late. His own men turned against him, and He Miao died at the hand of his officer Wu Kuang.
